Le pastel est une véritable passion
pour moi. Il y a plus de 23 ans, lors d’un atelier, on me proposa de peindre
avec le pastel sec et ce fut le coup de foudre pour ces bâtons de couleurs
pures. Les mélanges de couleurs, les fondus et textures que l’on obtient avec le
pastel sec sont tout à fait extraordinaires.
Mon premier professeur chez qui
j’ai assisté à des ateliers pendant cinq ans, Soeur Rita L’Abbé, me fit
connaître le pastel et me conseilla de poursuivre mon apprentissage avec ce
médium. Aussi, pour parfaire mon dessin, j’ai travaillé avec Dollard Laporte de
Hull. Dave Beckett de Toronto m’a enseigné quelques techniques pour
perfectionner mon approche du pastel. Le paysage étant mon sujet préféré, je
m’inspire de la nature du Québec et plus particulièrement des scènes du Parc de
la Gatineau, près de chez moi à Hull, pour produire mes oeuvres.
Je crois que le pastel a sa place
au soleil et j’aspire à faire connaître davantage ce médium merveilleux avec
lequel j’entend poursuivre ma carrière d’artiste pastelliste.

The pastel is a true passion for
me. Twenty-three years ago, attending a workshop, my tutor proposed that I
paint with the dry pastel and I felt enthusiastic for these lovable sticks of
pure colors. The mixture of colors and texture that we can obtain with the dry
pastel are incredibly rich and marvellous.
My first professor with whom I
attended workshops during five years, Soeur Rita L’Abbé, made me known the
pastel and advised me to continue my training with this medium. To perfect my
drawing, I worked with Dollard Laporte of Hull. Dave Beckett of Toronto taught
me some techniques to improve my approach of the pastel. Landscape being my
preferred subject, I take my inspiration from the scenery of Quebec and more
particularly from the beautiful Gatineau Park, close to my home in Hull, to
produce my pastel paintings.
I really think that pastel painting
is as popular as any other medium and as a pastellist, I will promote this
medium the best way I can in the future.
